The Robert, Johnson and Rand Shoe Company sat vacant in the heart of the garment district for some time before being positioned to become a significant part of the downtown revival of St. Louis. ESG reimagined the historic property as a boutique hotel complete with a signature F&B venue and a dramatic rooftop pool and cocktail bar. With a mix of Southern flare and Midwestern approachability, the design approach pays homage to the diverse and eclectic culture of St. Louis. With Sullivanesque exterior details, the interiors embrace various styles, layering contemporary finishes with classical furnishings. Tools of the shoe manufacturing trade inspired details like the stitching on headboards, the shape of the desks and saddle leather strapping in guest rooms.
