Jim brings a range of expertise in hospitality, workplace, civic, fitness, healthcare, education, and housing projects to ESG’s exemplary multifamily residential work. Dedicated to a creative and results-oriented iterative design process, Jim constantly improves his projects with every decision, utilizing client input and his proven expertise to create projects with distinctive character.

For Jim, open and honest communication drive a shared understanding between design team, client and community. His attentiveness allows him to respond to concerns as they arise, protecting the client’s vision while staying flexible to new input and ideas throughout the design and construction processes. He incorporates creativity into all aspects of his work, whether realizing a unique floor plan, or designing and detailing a building’s exterior. Because he often works on large-scale multifamily projects, important considerations range from site concerns, and parking and pedestrian access, to how the building in massing and materiality occupies the skyline.

As a former director of the AIA Northern Minnesota Chapter’s board, Jim organized and participated in educational events for members. His numerous volunteer activities include designing a full-sized modern playhouse that was auctioned off in support of a healthcare foundation.
