Imation Discovery Technology Center

The Imation Discovery Technology Center is a generation research and development facility at the Imation Enterprises, Inc. Oakdale, Minnesota campus. The design of the 438,000 sf Discovery Technology Center consists of three flexible R&D/office modules. Each contains four floors and equipment penthouses. The R&D modules are linked together by community and support “knuckles” designed to promote interaction and communication.

The major focal point of Discovery is the central customer and scientist support module. This contains the main entry and the service center for Imation customers. It also provides a series of amenity spaces including a cafeteria, a technology resource library, training, and conference rooms.

The architectural expression of Discovery is related to the building’s functional organization. The three R&D modules are a neutral expression rendered in brick and a horizontal glazing system. The contrasting curvilinear knuckles are clad in glass and aluminum to capture the spirit of Imation.
